Workout 1: Stream of Consciousness

Exercise:
Write out anything that comes to mind. Even if you can't think of anything and your mind is blank, write that.

"My mind is blank. I can't think of anything to write.... My mind is blank. A child is born with a blank slate..."

Eventually you'll come up with more things to write because, if you're like me and most humans, one thought will lead to another thought, which leads to another thought, which leads to another thought. Thoughts are endless. The mind wanders a lot farther than to which the universe can expand.

Purpose:
This exercise is designed to keep you writing about anything and everything.

Help Desk:
If you need help, read something from the newspaper, watch part of a movie, listen to the lyrics of your favorite song, think about your favorite memory. The possibilities are endless.

A Stage – The Last Act
Dancing in the rain. A jig. A two step ditty that sways you back and forth. Light steps. Pitter-patter. Match the rain drops. Splash. One big puddle. Now you’re all wet. Dance faster, kick up the rain, and defy gravity as it tries to meet its maker. Splish-splash goes the puddles. Pitter patter becomes drip drop as the rain gets stronger. A rain dance! Faster now, three sixty- start to twirl, hands out head facing the heavens above you grin into the darkening skies. An audience gathers as the clouds rumble and applause your performance almost completely blackening the skies. Lightning! Your grand finale. You race across the pavement like a sprinter in the last lap. Rain everywhere curtains of it surrounding and engulfing you. When you slip on a particularly slick part of the road you enjoy the feel of vertigo. It takes you soaring- like the raindrops- defying gravity. The impact brings fierce alertness to your senses. The wetness puddling behind your head mingles with the puddles around you; copper sharpness assails your nose. The skies, already blackening are getting blacker, the rumbling applause magnifies until it fills every sense of awareness you have left. Pitch black and silence signals the curtain call. Eyes still open the rain sheds your tears of joy.
